“Orange is the New Black” takes comedy ensemble prize at SAG Awards – Uzo Aduba also wins!

It sure was a big night for the Netflix women’s prison comedy Orange is the New Black at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The 40-person cast took home the coveted prize of comedy ensemble over the casts of The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Modern Family and Veep.

In addition, Uzo Aduba beat out of veterans to win in the comedy actress category for her performance as Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren, an emotionally unstable lesbian female inmate with a violent past.

Aduba, had won an Emmy in the guest actress category in September, choked back tears at the beginning of her speech.

‘Oh my God. I really, truly do not know what to say,’ she said. ‘I just wanna say thank you so much to the Screen Actors Guild for this incredible honor. I want to thank Jenji Kohan for writing a show like this and putting something like this on television, not just for myself but for our incredible team of actors to be seen in such a beautiful way.’

She also said: ‘I got this job was the day I had stopped acting, and to be in a room with all you amazing human beings, amazing talents, for what I love and respect so much, is really, truly the greatest honor.’

Aduba won over Julie Bowen of Modern Family, Edie Falco of Nurse Jackie of Julia Louis-Dreyfus of Veep and Amy Poehler of Parks and Recreation.
