People are buzzing about NHL player Brooks Laich and what he means about exploring his sexuality

I don’t want to get too tabloidy about this but, well, what the heck is going on with NHL player Brooks Laich?

He’s married to the not straight Julianne Hough and the couple has reportedly hit a rough patch in their two year marriage.

People magazine reports: Opening up on the podcast How Men Think with Gavin DeGraw on Monday, Laich confessed that he doesn’t feel “100 percent fully expressed” in his true sexuality and that he is now taking a “pleasure first” approach to his life.

“One of my goals this year is to really explore like, learning about sexuality,” said Laich. “People think that sexuality is just the act of sex, of just having sex and there’s so much more to it. Here’s a question. This is an honest question for everybody in this room, and every single person listening: Are you fully 100 percent fully expressed in your true sexuality? With your partner? With everything? You could not imagine having a better sex life? Are you truly there?” he asked. “I’m not either. So that’s what one of my goals this year is to really dive into. So then we’re all essentially, that’s a state of suffering.”

He continued: “We’re not 10s of 10s. It doesn’t mean you’re the best performer. It just means, ‘Are you fully expressed?’ Do you even know who you are sexually? And I truly, to my core, do not. But I’m super excited about that journey to really learn about sexuality and also get better at the performance of it, but also just the understanding of who I am, who my wife is, that sort of dance.”

Hmmmm. I hope he provides us with some updates as time goes by!

How I stay motivated / the spiritual side of athletics. Give it a read. When I train every day, it’s not just working out and getting a sweat in, it’s so much deeper than that. It’s a journey of personal growth and discovery of Self. When lifting a weight like the one in this video, the challenge is not “me vs. the weight” – it’s purely “me vs. me” Let me unpack that for you. What I mean by this, is I am not seeking to move that weight, but rather I am seeking the version of myself capable of moving that weight. The weight is just the obstacle necessary to drive me to a new depth of Self discovery. At it’s root, the weight is just a catalyst. The journey is to find the version of myself capable of conquering the obstacle I am confronted with, in this case the weight. Can I find and/or develop the conviction necessary to overcome the obstacle – that is the challenge I am presented with. So you see, it’s not the weight, it’s me. If I am unable to move a weight, the weight did not beat me. Rather, I was unable to discover and express the version of me capable of conquering that obstacle at this moment. That’s not a loss, that’s feedback. It means I must find and/or develop a more capable Self to overcome it. So that’s how I stay motivated, day in and day out. For me, training is not about moving weights every day, that kind of resistance would be exhausting. Training is about personal growth and discovery of Self, and that is a tireless engine. Reframe the motive, and you reframe the result. I hope this helps you find the better version of you that you are seeking! Much love team!

  1. That’s deep

  2. I think he’s on the right path. Keep looking for love. And if you ever get tired of Julianne, look me up.
