“The Bachelorette” teases Brokeback Bachelor twist

In its more than decade on the air, there has never been a gay contestant on ABC’s The Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise that viewers knew about.

Is that about to change?

Promos for next week’s episode of the reality show tease that there might be a possible romance brewing between contestants Clint and JJ who seem more interested in each other than courting Kaitlyn Bristowe.

‘Falling in love with a man never crossed my mind,’ Arlis says in the promo. ‘Kaitlyn’s not the right girl for me. I love JJ, so I need the rose tonight.’

He also says: ‘We’ve grown very close in the shower.’

Another contestant can be heard saying, ‘Clint and JJ, they’re so into each other.’

Regardless if this is true romance or just clever editing, ABC is certainly teasing viewers with the promo line: ‘This Brokeback bachelor will blow your mind.’

6 Remarks

  1. Bromance, schmomance…this totally smacks of ABC’s desperation for a ratings-biting campaign!

  2. This actually looks pretty good and interesting. I would love to see a gay Bachelor TV series, God please make it happen.

  3. There was a show on several years ago. I can’t remember what channel it was on. The bachelor was gay and the other men were gay…or some of them weren’t so the bachelor never really knew if the people he liked were gay or not until they got sent home or at the end of the series. I have great gaydar, but several of those guys who were not gay sure surprised me.

I’m not sure how I feel about ABC doing this. If they are sincerely into each other, that’s one thing, but to make a joke about it seems like it’s insulting to the show’s gay fans. Also, JJ has been sort of a clueless jerk and Clint seems ultra-hetero to me.

  4. so… did the ratings go up last night with this trick? hope not…

  5. In all the years this reality series has been on TV I’ve never seen an ep. And yeah the Clint/JJ “relationship”, bromance or whatever you want to tag it is a very obvious ratings ploy but this is the only reason I’d even consider tuning in the show so I guess it’s working in my instance. But instead of pussy footing around the issue of men dating and looking for love with other men a major network should get serious, treat the subject matter with respect and sensitivity and produce a gay edition of The Bachelor. I’d gladly watch THIS show in a NY minute.

  6. It’s a hoax. The show was morally bankrupt even before this disgusting stunt.
